Carving on bone is a new development and this is inspired by the ban on trade on the ivory products. The erstwhile ivory

carvers diversified into using their skill with other materials like sandal wood, red sandal wood, ebony wood, and kadam

wood (white wood). Bone is chosen for producing intricately carved miniature jali work. The bone is very hard to carve on

it unlike stone. For miniature jali work carving, a high degree of concentra
